Image Tools - When to use ?

Focused tools, each built for a specific step in working with images. More are on the way.

Convert Image

Convert an image between JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF — with quality control and explicit transparency handling.

When to use it

You need a JPG, PNG, WebP, or AVIF version of an image — for a smaller file, browser compatibility, or an upload form that only accepts one format.

  • Convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF
  • Upload, drag-drop, or paste from clipboard
  • Adjustable quality for lossy formats
  • Explicit transparency handling for JPG output
  • AVIF offered only when your browser can encode it
Open Convert Image

Compress Image

Compress JPG, PNG, and WebP images by re-encoding at a lower quality, with a live before/after size comparison.

When to use it

You have a JPG, PNG, or WebP that's too large for a page, email, or upload limit, and need it smaller without leaving your browser.

  • Adjustable quality slider for JPG and WebP
  • Switch output format to compare results
  • Live before/after size comparison
  • Transparent PNGs flattened correctly for JPG output
  • Upload or drag-and-drop, download the result
Open Compress Image

Edit Image

Resize, crop, rotate, and flip an image in one editor — chainable edits, undo/reset, and download in your chosen format.

When to use it

You need to resize, crop, and rotate the same image in one session — a thumbnail, an avatar, a banner — without bouncing between separate tools.

  • Resize by exact size, percentage, or preset, with aspect-ratio lock
  • Freeform or fixed-ratio crop with a drag-to-resize overlay
  • 90° and free rotation, plus horizontal/vertical flip
  • Chainable edits with Undo and Reset to original
  • Download in your chosen format
Open Edit Image

Resize Image

Resize a JPG, PNG, or WebP by exact dimensions, percentage, or preset, with an aspect-ratio lock.

When to use it

You need an image at an exact pixel size — a specific upload slot, a social media preset — and just want to resize, not necessarily crop or rotate.

  • Exact width/height with aspect-ratio lock
  • Percentage scaling (25/50/75/100%)
  • One-click social media presets
  • Crop and Rotate & Flip available on the same page
Open Resize Image

Crop Image

Crop a JPG, PNG, or WebP with a drag-to-resize overlay, freeform or locked to a fixed ratio.

When to use it

You need to cut an image down to a specific area or aspect ratio — removing background clutter, or fitting a 1:1 or 16:9 slot.

  • Drag-to-move, corner-handle resize overlay
  • Freeform or fixed 1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:2 ratios
  • Crop mapped precisely to the image's real pixels
  • Resize and Rotate & Flip available on the same page
Open Crop Image

Rotate Image

Rotate a JPG, PNG, or WebP in 90° steps or freely at any angle, and flip horizontally or vertically.

When to use it

You need to fix a sideways photo, straighten a tilted shot, or mirror an image — with a quick 90° turn, a free-angle slider, or a flip.

  • 90° rotate left/right in one click
  • Free rotation from -180° to 180° with live preview
  • Flip horizontal or vertical
  • Resize and Crop available on the same page
Open Rotate Image

Image to Base64

Convert a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, or AVIF image into a Base64 string or Data URI.

When to use it

You need to embed an image directly in CSS, HTML, or JSON — or pass it through an API that only accepts text — as a Base64 string or Data URI.

  • Base64 payload or ready-to-use Data URI output
  • Upload, drag-drop, or paste from clipboard
  • Supports JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, and AVIF
  • One-click copy, or download as a .txt file
Open Image to Base64

Base64 to Image

Decode a Base64 string or Data URI back into a viewable, downloadable image.

When to use it

You have a Base64 string or Data URI — from an API response, a database column, or embedded CSS — and need to see or download it as an actual image file.

  • Paste a Data URI or a raw Base64 payload
  • Image format auto-detected from the decoded bytes
  • Upload a .txt file instead of pasting
  • Download with the correct file extension
Open Base64 to Image

Favicon Generator

Generate a full favicon set — PNGs, a multi-resolution .ico, and a site.webmanifest — from a single image.

When to use it

You need a real favicon.ico plus every PNG size a modern site expects — not just a single 32×32 icon — from one source image.

  • Generates favicon-16/32/48, apple-touch-icon, and 192/512 Android sizes
  • Packs a multi-resolution favicon.ico
  • Generates a working site.webmanifest
  • Non-square images are center-cropped, not blocked
  • Download every file as one .zip
Open Favicon Generator

ICO Converter

Convert a PNG or JPG into a multi-resolution .ico file, or extract every embedded image from an .ico as PNGs.

When to use it

You need the raw image-to-.ico format conversion, either direction — not a full web favicon kit — such as for a desktop app icon, or to unpack an .ico someone handed you.

  • Convert a PNG/JPG into a multi-resolution .ico
  • Choose any combination of 16/32/48/256px
  • Extract every embedded size from an .ico as PNGs
  • Reads both classic BMP-in-ICO and modern PNG-in-ICO icons
  • Download individually or all at once as a .zip
Open ICO Converter

Remove Background

Remove the background from a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and download a transparent PNG — entirely in your browser.

When to use it

You need a product photo, profile picture, or graphic cut out from its background — without opening an image editor or uploading it to a third-party site.

  • Background removal runs locally via an in-browser ML model
  • Before/after comparison slider
  • Download as a transparent PNG
  • Preview against transparent, white, or a custom color
Open Remove Background

Blur Image

Select one or more areas of an image and blur them with an adjustable strength, entirely in your browser.

When to use it

You want to soften or de-emphasize part of an image — a distracting background detail, a logo, anything that doesn't need to be permanently unreadable.

  • Drag to select one or more rectangular regions
  • Move, resize, or delete any selection
  • Adjustable blur strength per region
  • Not a substitute for Redact on sensitive information
Open Blur Image

Pixelate Image

Select one or more areas of an image and pixelate them with an adjustable block size, entirely in your browser.

When to use it

You need the classic blocky censoring look — over a face, license plate, or screen in a photo or screenshot.

  • Drag to select one or more rectangular regions
  • Adjustable block size per region
  • True nearest-neighbor pixelation, not a blur
  • Move, resize, or delete any selection
Open Pixelate Image

Redact Image

Permanently cover sensitive information in an image with an opaque fill — the secure alternative to blur or pixelation.

When to use it

You need to permanently hide sensitive information — an email, ID number, account number, or private message — before sharing a screenshot or document.

  • Drag to select one or more rectangular regions
  • Replaces pixels outright with an opaque fill
  • Black, white, or custom fill color
  • The recommended option over blur or pixelate for sensitive data
Open Redact Image

Image Metadata Cleaner

View the EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, and other hidden metadata in an image, then remove what you choose — entirely in your browser.

When to use it

You want to see what a photo reveals — GPS location, camera, capture date, editing software — and strip it before sharing the file.

  • Inspect EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, ICC, comments, and PNG text
  • Choose which categories to remove
  • Lossless for JPG, PNG, and WebP — no re-compression
  • Keeps orientation so photos stay upright
  • Re-scans the cleaned file before download

What is Image Compression?

Image compression reduces a file's size by re-encoding its pixel data more efficiently — either "lossy," which discards some visual detail for a much smaller file (JPG, WebP), or "lossless," which shrinks the file with zero quality loss but far more modest gains (PNG, GIF).

Most everyday photos and graphics compress well as JPG or WebP because the human eye doesn't notice small, targeted quality reductions nearly as much as the file size difference they produce. A quality setting around 70-85% is usually the sweet spot: a large size reduction with no visible artifacts at normal viewing sizes.

WebP is a newer format that generally out-compresses JPG at the same visual quality, and it supports transparency (which JPG doesn't). PNG stays lossless, which makes it the right choice for screenshots, logos, and images with sharp edges or text — recompressing a PNG can still shave off real size with zero quality loss, just not as dramatically as a lossy JPG/WebP re-encode.

PayloadTools' Image Compressor runs this whole process locally using the browser's Canvas API: your image is drawn to an in-memory canvas and re-encoded at your chosen format and quality, entirely on your device. No image is ever uploaded to a server.
