Learn more about the Blur Image

Blur Part of an Image, Free

Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF, then drag to select one or more rectangular areas of the image. Each selection can be moved, resized from its corner handles, or deleted, and gets its own blur strength — from a light softening to a heavy, unreadable blur.

Everything runs locally via the Canvas API — your image is never uploaded to a server. Blurring is fast and reversible-looking, but it is a visual effect, not encryption: a strong enough blur is usually enough to obscure a detail casually, but it can sometimes be reversed or guessed, especially at low strength. For information that must be permanently unreadable — an email address, ID number, or account number — use Redact Image instead, which replaces the pixels outright rather than distorting them.

When to Blur an Image

Soften a Distracting Background

Blur clutter behind a subject so attention stays on what matters in the frame.

De-emphasize (Not Hide) a Detail

Blur a logo, sign, or minor detail you want less prominent — not a secret that must never be recoverable.

Preview a Redaction Before Committing

Try a blur first to see the framing, then switch the same region to Redact once you're sure.

FAQ

Is this image blur tool free?

Yes, it is completely free to use with no limits, signup, or account required.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Blurring runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded or sent to a server.

How do I blur part of an image?

Upload an image, then click and drag on it to select a rectangular area. Drag the selection to move it, drag a corner handle to resize it, and adjust the Blur Strength slider — do this for as many areas as you need.

Can I blur multiple areas in the same image?

Yes. Add as many selections as you need, and give each one its own blur strength.

Is blurring an image secure enough to permanently hide sensitive information?

No. Blur is a visual effect, not secure redaction — depending on strength and image resolution it can sometimes be reversed or guessed. For information that must be permanently unreadable, use Redact Image instead, which replaces the pixels outright.

Can I undo a blur or remove a selection?

Yes. Undo steps back through your edits one at a time, Reset clears every selection, and each selection also has its own delete button.

What format does the blurred image download as?

Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP at download time, at the image's original resolution, with an adjustable quality setting for JPG/WebP.
