JSON Tools
Format, validate, compare, escape, sort, convert, generate a schema for, query, flatten, and validate against a schema — all for JSON, directly in your browser, no signup, no upload, no install. Beautify messy payloads, catch syntax errors with precise messages, diff two JSON objects side-by-side, turn JSON into a safely embeddable string, sort keys or array items, convert to and from CSV or YAML or XML, infer a JSON Schema from a real sample, run JSONPath expressions to pull out exactly the values you need, flatten nested JSON into dot-notation keys and back, and check a real document against that schema with a full violation report. Every tool runs entirely on your device, so your data stays private and results appear instantly, even for large files.

Eleven focused tools, each built for a specific step in working with JSON.
JSON Formatter
Beautify or minify JSON instantly. Format messy JSON into readable, indented output.
You have minified or messy JSON — an API response, a log line, a config file — and need it readable, or need to shrink it back down before shipping.
- Beautify with 2 or 4-space indentation
- Minify to the smallest possible payload
- Switch to Tree View for nested data
- Upload a .json file or paste directly
JSON Validator
Validate JSON syntax instantly. Get clear error messages for invalid JSON.
You're not sure whether a JSON payload is syntactically correct and need to know exactly where it breaks.
- Instant syntax validation as you type
- Precise error location and description
- Handles large documents smoothly
- Works with pasted text or uploaded files
JSON Compare
Compare two JSON objects side-by-side and highlight the differences. Supports tree view and raw diff.
You're checking an API response against an expected shape, or diffing config files across environments.
- Side-by-side diff with added/removed highlights
- Deep comparison of nested objects and arrays
- Tree view and raw diff modes
- Upload two files or paste both sides
JSON Escape / Unescape
Escape JSON into a JSON-safe string literal, or unescape one back into readable JSON.
You need to embed a full JSON payload as a string value inside another JSON document, a config file, or an env var — or decode one that already is.
- Escape raw JSON into a JSON-safe string literal
- Unescape a string back into readable JSON
- Handles content missing its surrounding quotes
- Upload a .json or .txt file or paste directly
JSON Sort
Sort JSON object keys alphabetically (A-Z or Z-A), or sort a JSON array of objects by any field.
You're diffing two JSON documents and inconsistent key order is drowning out real changes, or you have a JSON array of records you need ranked by a field like price, date, or score.
- Sort object keys A-Z/Z-A at every nesting level
- Sort a JSON array of objects by any field
- Ascending or descending in both modes
- Upload a .json file or paste directly
JSON to CSV
Convert a JSON array of objects into a downloadable CSV file, with nested objects flattened.
You have a JSON array of records — an API response, an export, a log — and need it in a spreadsheet for a non-developer, a BI tool, or a bulk import.
- Flattens nested objects into dot-notation columns
- Builds headers from the union of all fields
- Missing fields become blank cells, not errors
- RFC 4180-compliant quoting and escaping
CSV to JSON
Convert CSV into a JSON array of objects, with header detection and optional type inference.
You have data from a spreadsheet, export, or report as CSV, and need it as a JSON array to feed into an API, script, or config.
- RFC 4180-compliant parsing of quoted fields
- Toggle whether the first row is treated as headers
- Optional number/boolean/null type inference
- Ragged rows with missing or extra columns handled gracefully
JSON to YAML Converter
Convert JSON to YAML instantly, with key order preserved. Also converts YAML back to JSON from the same page.
You have a JSON API response, export, or config and need it as YAML for a Kubernetes manifest, CI config, or just to hand-edit more easily — or the other way around.
- JSON → YAML by default, YAML → JSON with one click
- Key order preserved in both directions
- Multi-document YAML converts to a JSON array
- Upload a file or paste directly
JSON to XML Converter
Convert JSON into well-formed XML, with a configurable root element and arrays mapped to repeated elements.
You need to send JSON data to a legacy system, SOAP-based service, or enterprise API that only accepts XML.
- Nested objects become nested elements
- Arrays become repeated sibling elements
- Configurable root element name
- Special characters escaped and invalid tag names sanitized automatically
JSON Schema Generator
Generate a JSON Schema from sample JSON, with nested object, array, and required field detection.
You have a real API response or config sample and need a JSON Schema for validation, documentation, or an API contract, without writing one by hand.
- Infers type per key: string, number, integer, boolean, object, array, null
- Nested objects and arrays inferred at any depth
- Required field detection with an editable toggle
- Choose Draft-07 or 2020-12 output
JSONPath Evaluator
Run JSONPath expressions against JSON and see matching values and their paths instantly.
You need to pull specific values out of a large API response, log, or config — by field name, by condition, or from deep inside nested arrays — without writing a script.
- Standard JSONPath syntax via jsonpath-plus
- Wildcards, recursive descent, filters, and slicing
- Results panel shows each match and its exact path
- Debounced live evaluation with inline error messages
JSON Schema Validator
Validate a JSON document against a JSON Schema and see every violation with its path.
You have a JSON Schema and need to confirm a real API response, config file, or test fixture actually conforms to it before shipping or in CI.
- Draft-07 and 2020-12 support via Ajv
- Every violation reported with its JSON pointer path
- Malformed schema and malformed document treated as distinct errors
- Copy or download the full validation report
JSON Flatten / Unflatten
Flatten nested JSON into dot/bracket-notation keys, or unflatten those keys back into nested JSON.
You need nested JSON as flat, spreadsheet-friendly rows, env-var-style keys, or search-index fields — or need to restore a flattened document back to its original nested shape.
- Dot-notation keys with bracket notation for array indices
- Configurable delimiter instead of the default dot
- Round-trip flatten → unflatten reproduces the original JSON
- Upload a .json file or paste directly

What is JSON?
JSON — JavaScript Object Notation — is a lightweight, text-based format for representing structured data. It grew out of JavaScript object syntax in the early 2000s and was quickly adopted well beyond the browser, becoming the default way most APIs, config files, and services exchange data today.
The format itself is small: objects are key-value pairs wrapped in curly braces, arrays are ordered lists in square brackets, and values are limited to strings, numbers, booleans, null, objects, or other arrays. There is no support for comments, dates, or functions — that constraint is deliberate. A small, unambiguous grammar is what makes JSON easy to parse correctly in virtually every programming language.
That combination — human readable, machine readable — is why JSON won out over more verbose formats for so many use cases. A person can open a JSON file and understand the structure at a glance, especially once it's formatted with proper indentation. At the same time, a parser can read it deterministically without guessing at whitespace or type coercion rules, unlike formats such as YAML.
Developers reach for JSON because nearly every language has a fast, built-in or standard-library JSON parser, because REST and GraphQL APIs use it as their default payload format, and because it maps cleanly onto the data structures — objects, arrays, primitives — that most programming languages already have. It's also why tooling around JSON, like formatters, validators, and diff tools, is used so heavily: raw JSON is efficient to transmit but tedious to read, so a quick pass through a formatter or validator is a routine part of working with APIs and configuration.
