About PayloadTools

A single, fast toolkit for the JSON, XML, YAML, SQL, and text chores that come up in nearly every engineering job — built to run entirely in your browser, with nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

Why We Built PayloadTools

PayloadTools started from a familiar annoyance: needing to format an API response, diff two config files, or decode a JWT, and having to search for whatever "online json formatter" ranked first that week. Most of those sites work, but they come with ad networks fighting for space around the editor, signup walls in front of basic features, and no clear answer to the one question that actually matters when you're pasting in a real payload — where does this data go?

That last question is the one that mattered most. JSON payloads, XML configs, and JWTs are rarely just sample data — they're often API responses with real customer records, tokens, or internal config, copied out of a terminal or log for a five-second check. Pasting that into a site with no stated data policy, just to see it formatted, is a bad trade most developers make anyway, because the alternative — opening a full IDE or writing a throwaway script — is slower.

So PayloadTools was built as one place instead of six: the same interface, the same Monaco editor that powers VS Code, and the same rule for every tool — nothing you paste ever leaves your browser. It stayed a static, focused toolkit rather than growing into a platform, because the tools developers reach for most often — format, validate, compare, convert — don't need to be anything more than that.

Our Mission

Give every developer a fast, free, and private place to format, validate, compare, and convert data — without an account, without a data-retention policy to read, and without a spinner to wait on.

What Problems We Solve

The everyday friction that comes with reaching for a random online tool — and why PayloadTools works differently.

Scattered, single-purpose sites

One place instead of six bookmarks — JSON, XML, YAML, SQL, and text tools share the same interface and editor.

Pasting sensitive data into the unknown

API payloads and config files often carry real tokens or customer data. Most "free online" tools never say where that data goes — this one keeps it in your browser.

Slow, ad-cluttered pages

No popups, no waiting on ad networks to finish loading before the editor is usable.

Heavy tooling for a five-second task

Not every JSON diff needs Postman, a CLI, or an IDE plugin installed just to check one payload.

Paywalls and usage limits

No free tier that caps out after a few uses. Every tool is fully usable, every time, for free.

Tools for Every Data Format

60 tools across 8 categories, each covering a specific format developers work with daily.

Our Commitment to Privacy

Every tool on PayloadTools runs as client-side JavaScript. When you paste JSON into the formatter, compare two XML files, or decode a JWT, that work happens inside your browser's own JavaScript engine — there is no backend that receives, logs, or stores what you paste. The site itself is static; nothing about how a tool processes your input requires a network request.

Client-Side Processing

Every format, validate, compare, and convert operation runs in your browser's JavaScript engine.

No Server Upload

Pasted or uploaded content is never transmitted to, or stored on, a PayloadTools server.

No Content Tracking

Aggregate, anonymous page-view analytics help us see which tools are useful — the data you paste into a tool is never part of that.

No Account Required

There's nothing to sign up for and nothing tied to your identity.
