Redact Sensitive Information from an Image, Free
Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP, or GIF, then drag to select one or more rectangular areas covering information you need to hide. Redaction permanently replaces the pixels in each selected region with a solid, opaque fill — black by default, or white or any custom color — so the original content is gone from the exported image, not just visually distorted.
Everything runs locally via the Canvas API — your image is never uploaded to a server. This is the option to use when something truly needs to be unreadable, unlike Blur or Pixelate, which are visual effects that can sometimes be reversed or guessed rather than a permanent removal of the underlying pixels.
What to Redact

FAQ
Is this image redaction tool free?
Yes, it is completely free to use with no limits, signup, or account required.
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. Redaction runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded or sent to a server.
How do I redact part of an image?
Upload an image, then click and drag on it to select a rectangular area over the information you want to hide. Drag the selection to move it, drag a corner handle to resize it, and pick a fill color — do this for as many areas as you need.
Is redaction actually secure, unlike blur or pixelation?
Redaction replaces the selected pixels outright with a solid, opaque fill, rather than distorting them — once downloaded, the original content in that area is gone from the exported image. Blur and pixelation are visual effects that can sometimes be reversed or guessed instead.
What fill colors are available?
Black and white are one click each, or pick any custom color for the opaque fill.
Can I redact multiple areas in the same image?
Yes. Add as many selections as you need — every field on a form, or every line of a private message.
Can I undo a redaction or remove a selection?
Yes. Undo steps back through your edits one at a time, Reset clears every selection, and each selection also has its own delete button — as long as you haven't downloaded and closed the tab yet.
What format does the redacted image download as?
Choose PNG, JPG, or WebP at download time, at the image's original resolution, with an adjustable quality setting for JPG/WebP.
