View and Remove Image Metadata, Free
Every photo from a phone or camera carries hidden data alongside the pixels: the device that took it, when it was taken, the software that edited it, and very often the exact GPS coordinates of where you were standing. Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC, or AVIF to see all of it, grouped into clear categories and flagged by how much it reveals — then pick what to strip before you share the image.
For JPEG, PNG, and WebP, metadata is removed by cutting the metadata segments out of the file directly, so the image itself is byte-for-byte identical and there's no re-compression or quality loss. Essential information like dimensions, color model, and orientation is always kept so the image still displays correctly. HEIC and AVIF files are cleaned by re-saving the pixels as JPG or PNG. Everything runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.
What Metadata Can an Image Contain?
EXIF
Camera make and model, lens, exposure, ISO, capture date, software, and sometimes serial numbers.
GPS
The latitude, longitude, and altitude where a photo was taken — usually precise to a few meters.
XMP
Adobe's metadata format: editing history, creator tool, ratings, rights, and document IDs.
IPTC
Captions, keywords, byline, copyright, and location names used by newsrooms and photo agencies.
ICC Profile
The image's color space. Kept by default, since removing it can shift colors on wide-gamut photos.
Thumbnail
A tiny preview copy embedded in EXIF — sometimes still showing the original before it was cropped.
Features
See Everything Inside
EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, ICC profiles, comments, PNG text chunks, and embedded thumbnails — each field listed.
Choose What to Remove
Remove GPS but keep camera settings, or wipe everything — every category has its own checkbox.
No Quality Loss
JPEG, PNG, and WebP are cleaned by removing metadata blocks directly — the pixels are never re-compressed.
No Server Upload
Inspection and cleaning run entirely in your browser — the image never leaves your device.
Verified Before Download
The cleaned file is re-scanned and test-decoded, so you can see exactly what remains before saving it.
Remove GPS before posting onlineMany sites strip metadata on upload, but messaging apps, email, cloud-shared links, and file transfers often don't. Cleaning the file yourself is the only way to be sure the location is gone. To also hide what's visible in the picture, use Redact Image.

FAQ
Is my image uploaded to a server?
No. The image is read, inspected, and cleaned entirely in your browser. It is never uploaded, logged, or stored anywhere.
What metadata can this tool find?
EXIF camera and capture data, GPS location, embedded thumbnails, XMP (editing history, creator tool, rights), IPTC/Photoshop data (captions, keywords, byline), ICC color profiles, JPEG comments, PNG text chunks, and extra data appended after the image such as secondary images or motion-photo video.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
Not for JPEG, PNG, or WebP. Metadata blocks are cut out of the file directly, and the compressed image data is copied through untouched — there is no re-compression. HEIC and AVIF are the exception: they are re-saved from their pixels as JPG or PNG.
Can I remove GPS location but keep the other EXIF data?
Yes. GPS and the embedded thumbnail are separate checkboxes, so you can remove the location while keeping camera settings and capture date. Removing all EXIF data removes GPS and the thumbnail along with it.
Will my photo appear rotated after removing EXIF?
No. Photos taken sideways rely on an EXIF orientation tag to display upright, so when you remove EXIF the tool keeps just that single tag and nothing else.
Should I remove the ICC color profile?
Usually not. The ICC profile describes the image's color space and contains no personal information in most cases. Removing it from a wide-gamut photo (such as Display P3 from an iPhone) can make colors look duller, so it is kept by default.
What is the maximum file size?
Up to 30MB per image.
Why can't I clean a HEIC file in my browser?
Cleaning HEIC requires the browser to decode it, which currently only Safari supports. In other browsers you can still view the full metadata report, or convert the image to JPG first.
