Compress Images Without Uploading Them Anywhere

Image compression re-encodes a photo or graphic at a lower quality setting, trading a small amount of visual fidelity for a meaningfully smaller file. This tool does that entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — your image is drawn to a canvas and re-encoded locally, so nothing is ever uploaded to a server.

Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP file, pick an output format, and drag the quality slider. The compressed preview and its file size update live, so you can see exactly how much smaller the file gets before committing to a download.

PNG is a lossless format — there's no quality knob to turn, so the size doesn't change with the slider. It's still genuinely recompressed under the hood using oxipng, which finds better compression settings than a plain re-encode — with zero pixel-level quality loss. For a bigger size reduction, switch the output format to JPG or WebP, which both support adjustable lossy compression.

Why Compress Images?

Faster Page Loads

Large, uncompressed images are one of the most common causes of slow page loads and poor Core Web Vitals scores.

Smaller Uploads and Emails

Attachment size limits and slow uploads are usually a compression problem, not a connection problem.

Privacy by Default

Most online compressors upload your image to a server first. This one never leaves your device — the compression happens locally.

Compare Formats Instantly

The same photo can compress very differently as JPG vs. WebP. Switching formats live makes it easy to see which wins for a given image.

Features

Adjustable Quality

Drag the quality slider and see the output size update live for JPG and WebP.

Real PNG Optimization

PNG output is recompressed with oxipng (WASM) for genuine lossless savings, not just a plain re-encode.

Before/After Comparison

See original size, compressed size, and the exact percentage reduction at a glance.

No Server Upload

Compression runs entirely via the Canvas API in your browser — the image is never sent anywhere.

Handles Transparency

Transparent PNGs compressing to JPG are flattened onto white automatically, instead of turning black.

One-Click Download

Download the compressed file the moment you're happy with the size/quality tradeoff.

How to use

Paste your input in the left editor. The output appears automatically on the right. Use the toolbar buttons to copy, download, or transform the result.

  1. Paste or type your content in the input editor on the left.
  2. The formatted output is generated automatically.
  3. Use Copy, Download, or other actions from the output toolbar.

FAQ

Is this image compressor free?

Yes, it is completely free to use with no limits, signup, or account required.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. Compression runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your image is never uploaded or sent to a server.

Which formats can I compress?

Upload a JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP file, and compress the output as JPG, WebP, or PNG.

Why doesn’t the quality slider do anything for PNG output?

PNG is a lossless format with no quality parameter. The output is still genuinely recompressed using oxipng (better compression settings than a plain re-encode) with zero quality loss — for a bigger size reduction, switch to JPG or WebP.

What happens to transparent PNGs compressed as JPG?

JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are automatically flattened onto a white background rather than turning black.

How much smaller will my image get?

It depends heavily on the source image and quality setting — the tool shows the exact original size, compressed size, and percentage reduction live as you adjust the quality slider.

Can I upload a file instead of dragging it in?

Yes. Click the Upload button in the Original panel to browse for a file, or drag and drop an image directly onto it. Files up to 30MB are supported.

What happens if my file isn’t a valid image?

The tool shows a clear error explaining the file isn’t an image or couldn’t be read, rather than failing silently.
