Learn more about the Remove Background

What Does This Background Remover Do?

This tool removes the background from a JPG, PNG, or WebP image and returns a PNG with a real transparent alpha channel — no manual selecting, masking, or eraser tool required.

Upload an image and a background-removal model runs directly in your browser to separate the subject from its background. Compare the result against the original with the before/after slider, then download the cutout as a transparent PNG ready to drop into a product listing, a slide, or another design.

Everything — including the model itself — runs and stays on your device. Your image is never uploaded to a server.

How to Remove a Background from an Image

1

Upload an image

Drag and drop a JPG, PNG, or WebP file, or click to browse.

2

Background is removed automatically

A background-removal model runs locally in your browser — nothing is uploaded.

3

Download the transparent PNG

Preview the before/after, then save the cutout with a real alpha channel.

Supported Image Formats

Upload JPG/JPEG, PNG, or WebP. The output is always a PNG, since JPG and most WebP files can't store transparency — a PNG is the only common format with a proper alpha channel to hold the cut-out result.

Privacy

Your image is processed directly in your browser. It is never uploaded to our servers, sent to a third-party API, or stored anywhere. The background-removal model itself is downloaded once from a public model registry and cached by your browser — after that, every image you process runs entirely offline, on-device.

FAQ

Is this background remover free?

Yes, it is completely free to use with no limits, signup, or account required.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The background-removal model downloads once and runs entirely in your browser after that. Your image is never uploaded to a server or sent to a third-party API.

Which image formats are supported?

Upload JPG/JPEG, PNG, or WebP. The result is always downloaded as a PNG, since that's the format that can actually store the transparent background.

Can I download a transparent PNG?

Yes. The downloaded file has a real alpha channel, shown over a checkerboard pattern in the preview so you can see exactly what's transparent before saving.

Does it work on mobile?

Yes, it runs in any modern mobile browser. Processing uses a Web Worker so the page stays responsive while the background is removed, though very large photos may take longer on a phone than a desktop.

How does browser-based background removal work?

The tool loads a background-removal machine learning model directly into your browser (via WebAssembly) and runs it locally on your image, the same way a server-side tool would — except the image data never leaves your device.

Why does the first image take longer than the next one?

The model (a one-time download of a few dozen megabytes) has to load before the first image can be processed. Your browser caches it after that, so subsequent images process much faster.

Can I upload a file instead of dragging it in?

Yes. Click Choose Image to browse for a file, or drag and drop an image directly onto the upload area. Files up to 30MB are supported.
